A NASA astronaut photographed a stunning surreal image of a rocket launch – Quartz

It is not uncommon for astronauts aboard the International Space Station to witness a rocket launch from Earth to the stars. But a recent image taken by an American astronaut is perhaps the most beautiful we have ever seen.

NASA astronaut Christina Koch tweeted yesterday (25 September) the image she had captured from a Soyuz capsule, which had taken off from Kazakhstan and was carrying astronauts from the United States , from Russia and the United Arab Emirates. The American passenger aboard the Soyuz 61 was Jessica Meir, who had trained with Koch, reported Space.com.

The abstract and surreal image highlights the second floor of Soyuz in bloom, while the escape from the initial launch of the rocket drags behind in a serpentine hiss, just above the curvature of the earth's horizon. Its striking contrast between light and darkness makes it look almost like an abstract DalĂ canvas.
