35 new deaths, 2,103 additional cases

The latest update from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health details another increase in COVID-19 cases and deaths. Saturday’s Los Angeles County figures confirm 2,103 new cases of COVID-19 and 35 other deaths from the infectious disease.

As the latest set of coronavirus statistics reflect information from the state’s electronic laboratory reporting systems, LA Public Health says it is still anticipating more numbers from a backlog of reports in the coming days .

Saturday’s numbers are lower than any reported on Friday. Prior to today’s update, the county had registered 2,642 new cases and 45 new deaths. The latest update shows a drop in hospitalizations, bringing the total number of patients currently hospitalized to just under 1,400 with the number of 1,393 hospitalizations on Saturday.

Of the 35 newly confirmed deaths, the 50 to 64 age group constitutes the majority, accounting for 11 of the new deaths.

Saturday’s update comes days after California became the first state to report 600,000 cases of coronavirus. Despite the grim milestone, Gov. Gavin Newsom said on Friday the state saw the number of new cases drop as it hit a seven-week low for new daily cases.

To date, Los Angeles County has a total of 220,762 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 5,245 related deaths. California is reporting 614,616 total cases and 11,159 total deaths.
