Regional update, five new cases of COVID-19 in Tuolumne County

Sonora, California – Tuolumne County Public Health reports that five new residents of Tuolumne County have been identified. Two from Saturday, two from Sunday and one today. Four of the people isolated themselves, one recovered and one was discharged from the hospital.

Known Tuolumne tests: 9,145, positive 165 (85 women and 77 men), hospitalized 0, active cases 6, total recovered 157. Of the 165 known residents of Tuolumne who have tested positive for the coronavirus since March, 157 have been released from isolation. All 157 are being reported as ‘cured’ although they may never have experienced any visible symptoms or may continue to have persistent health issues related to the virus. Contact tracing is ongoing, limited details are being made public to protect individual privacy and comply with HIPPA regulations.

Tuolumne County Public Health Updates

Public Health to provide update on COVID-19 at Supervisory Board meeting tomorrow, Tuesday August 18e at 9 o’clock in the morning.

The California Department of Public Health reports that it has updated its county data watch list now that the recent backlog of data has been cleared. In order to systematically reflect the data and the impact of the disease on our communities, the state has updated its data and retroactively updated the county data watchlist for each day over the entire affected period (from July 25). Tuolumne County Public Health is clarifying with the state our status and will provide an update when we receive written confirmation.

Due to the extreme heat, cooling centers will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. until Wednesday, August 19.e as detailed here. Information about the Calaveras cooling center can be found here. PG&E is asking the public to limit power consumption to avoid power outages, as detailed here.

The state’s free trial site is open at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds Tuesday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Appointments can be scheduled in advance at: https://lhi.care/covidtesting Appointments are highly recommended as walk-in visits are extremely limited. The site now offers tests for children aged 3 and over (accompanied by a parent or guardian).

It is important that people continue to follow prevention guidelines to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, including:

  • Practice physical distance at all times. Keep 6 feet of space between yourself and others who are not in your household. Stay in your domestic bubble!
  • Wear a face mask in public.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly and frequently.
  • Avoid gatherings of any size with people outside your household.
  • Stay home if you are sick.
  • Avoid unnecessary travel and limit your outings to essential tasks.
