How lazy do Idahoans rank among states exercising during COVID? Let go and read this.

BOISE (Idaho statesman) – When the coronavirus first shut down the United States, Idaho appeared to come to life on the outside.

The green belts have been stamped. The parks were full of children. The Foothills trails have been overrun with joggers and bikers.

But did most of us really exercise more during the pandemic?

Just the opposite. Idahoans have essentially turned into lazy, according to a new Google survey from Ezvid Wiki, a video and software company. The average Idahoan exercises 42% less than before, according to a press release – and watches a lot more television.

In percent decline, Idaho is the 9th laziest state, according to the study. Vermont is the worst, exercising 67% less. Minnesota is the best, with just 16% less exercise than before COVID.

Pour that Cheetos bag in your mouth and consider this. The July survey involved 3,710 respondents nationwide. That’s not a huge sample size – certainly smaller than Boise’s apparent size. But the result is still confusing. We Idahoans pride ourselves on being active, don’t we?

Can we blame the closing of our gyms? Uh, not really. After the initial shutdown, most reopened.

“Despite being able to do home workouts, it appears a lot of people have used the lockout to let their fitness slip,” the press release said. “So it’s no coincidence that the investigation also found that Idahoans watched, on average, 356 hours of television during the lockdown (about 32 hours per week). This compares to 262 hours over a comparable pre-lockout period. “

Unfortunately, that sounds very believable. (And I still need to watch “Peaky Blinders” on Netflix.) Any parent with kids knows that kids get a lot more screen time. In my house, tons more – despite a constant struggle.

“The most square-eyed state was found to be Nevada,” the press release said. “Its residents watched the most television of all, recording 519 hours, or 47 hours per week. In fact, it’s almost seven hours a day, which is almost like doing it like a full-time job. “

Other discoveries? One in five of us admit to “being addicted to television since the lockdown” and “nearly half of adults (46%) even admit watching television during working hours”.

We also seem to be proud of our stroll: “57% say they enjoyed being lazy during the lockdown.”

Either way, it’s way too hot outside to exercise today. Are there any Cheetos left?
