(Reuters) – It would be best to familiarize yourself with virtual classrooms in areas of the country where the positivity rate for coronavirus infection is over 10%, leading expert Dr Anthony Fauci said on Tuesday American in infectious diseases.

Fauci said the default position should be to try to reopen schools for the psychological health of children, but added that a one-sided approach to reopening schools cannot be taken.

“Making a side-against-side statement and taking the country as a whole won’t work – we’re so heterogeneous with infections,” Fauci said at a virtual conference hosted by the news website on Healthline health.

Some U.S. schools have closed almost as quickly as they have re-admitted students as the country attempts to reopen as the level of new cases per day remains high in many states.

The United States has more than 5 million confirmed cases of coronavirus infections, the highest in the world, according to a Reuters tally.
