Colorado recorded a record number of COVID-19 hospitalizations on Sunday, with more than 1,000 people in hospitals statewide infected with the novel coronavirus
The surge in hospitalizations comes just days after the state passed April’s peak in hospital admissions. State officials warned last week that Colorado was heading into a critical phase of the pandemic.
As of Sunday, 1,023 people were hospitalized with confirmed COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus. Previously, hospitalizations peaked in April with 888 people hospitalized, according to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.
Currently, 84% of the 1,984 beds available in the state’s intensive care units are in use, a percentage that has been climbing since September.
The state health department on Saturday recorded 2,766 new cases of the novel coronavirus.
Denver is under a 10 p.m. curfew for residents and non-exempt businesses from Sunday – a restriction implemented by city officials in an attempt to avoid another stay-at-home order.
