A woman who spent the COVID-19 pandemic losing 140 pounds in just eight months is convinced her amazing weight loss helped her recover when she caught the virus.

Angelina Toppi, 24, of Harper County, Md., Had gone from 320 pounds to 180 pounds before testing positive for the coronavirus in October.

“ If I was as tall as I had been, I think my symptoms and their duration would have been much worse, ” she said.

Fortunately, Angelina didn’t have to go to the hospital and recovered at home.

“My symptoms weren’t that bad and I think it was because I’m healthy and no longer obese,” she explained.

“I lost my sense of smell, I had headaches and I was really tired but it only lasted three or four days.

“ I think if I was as heavy as before I would have had breathing problems. ”

Angelina, who works in accounting at an auto dealership, started losing weight in February – just three weeks before the US crashed into a lockdown – after a relationship broke.

“I went through a bad breakup and realized how heavy and unhealthy I was,” she said. “The best way to get revenge on someone is to look better.

“Most people gain weight during COVID, but I’m losing it.

She turned to the high-fat, high-carb keto diet popular with celebrities including Kourtney Kardashian and Katie Couric.

“I have about 20g of carbohydrates per day,” she explained. “I have no sugar, bread or pasta. I just eat meat, salad and vegetables.

Angelina used to start each day with four Dunkin ‘Donuts egg and cheese wraps drizzled with a tall coffee with extra cream and caramel before gorging herself on crisps, candies and garlic bread. All day long.

But she’s swapped out fast food for lean salads or veggies cooked with tuna or grilled chicken, and now she’s munching on whole almonds.

“At first it was very difficult, but after about two months it really became a way of life,” she said. “I could tell how many carbs something was in just by looking at it. It has become second nature.

“I missed the pasta,” she admitted. “I’m Italian, so my family eats a lot of spaghetti.

The lockdown made it harder for her to train, but she is now back in the gym five days a week.

“When I started my diet, I worked out every day for three weeks,” she says. “ But then the shutdown happened, so I started doing other things like intermittent fasting. And, obviously, when I had COVID, I couldn’t go to the gym.

Angelina added that she was thrilled with her weight loss and traded her oversized size 20 clothes for a fit size 8.

But she said she still wanted to lose more pounds, revealing her goal weight was 140 pounds – the same amount she had already lost.

After reaching her target weight, she plans to slowly incorporate healthy carbohydrates such as fruits and potatoes into her diet slowly.

“I feel so much better about myself,” she says. “I find the walk easier and I can’t hear myself breathing all the time.

“I can now put on clothes in regular stores, I don’t go to large stores all the time.
