Humboldt County Joint Information Center press release:

Four new cases of COVID-19 were reported today. A previous case has been reassigned to the county where the person resides, so the total number of county residents who have tested positive for the virus now stands at 624.

The California Department of Public Health today updated the county level allocation as part of the “Blueprint for a Safer Economy.” Humboldt County remains in the “yellow” or minimum level with an adjusted case rate of 2.0 and a positivity rate of 1%. Although local data meets the criteria for the orange level, the county will remain in the yellow level after qualifying for the state’s health equity measure.

Dr Josh Ennis, deputy health administrator for Humboldt County, said local trends were heading in the wrong direction. “If this continues, we could see an orange leveling next month,” he said, stressing that individual actions have a direct impact on the community. “Following simple safety precautions like wearing a face mask, washing hands regularly and avoiding mingling with other households, especially during and after travel, is the best way to support our businesses and families. Travel is currently the main driver of the disease, ”he added. “The more we can do to prevent the spread of this virus, the better off we will all be.”
