GALION – OhioHealth has made a $ 1 million investment to expand healthcare services for residents of Crawford County with a commitment to create a new ‘model of care’. The announcement was made during a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday for OhioHealth’s new group of doctors in Galion, located at 745 Carter Drive in the Discount Drug Mart Plaza. OhioHealth also plans to open an emergency care facility in Bucyrus later this year, adding 20 new combined jobs to the workforce.
Vinson Yates, president of OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital and Shelby Hospital, said the Columbus-based healthcare system – the region’s largest healthcare provider – focuses not only on health services and of welfare, but also strives to be “the provider of choice” for Crawford County residents.
“We’ve been in the community for years,” said Yates, who joined representatives from the city and the local chamber of commerce and economic development for the official groundbreaking ceremony. “In eight simple words, we want to ‘improve the health of those we serve’.”
Galion’s practice, which opened on October 10, is made up of Lee Ann Ivy, CNP, Karen Crane, CNP and Dr William S. Ballinger. Specialists from OhioHealth’s nationally recognized cardiac and vascular program in Mansfield will also see patients there.
Urgent Care, 1820 E. Mansfield Street, will be open seven days a week with extended evening hours for patients with non-life-threatening injuries. The location is currently shared by orthopedic surgeon Dr Jay Guth and Kidney Associates, Inc., who will continue to see patients during and after construction.
“We believe urgent care is an important part of the continuum of care for patients,” said Geoff Gregory, vice president of the OhioHealth Physician Group North Region. “Helping patients avoid emergencies for care that does not require this level of care is the right thing to do.”
Gary Frankhouse, executive director and director of economic development for the Crawford Partnership, noted that the healthcare industry is the county’s fastest growing sector. He welcomed “the new face of OhioHealth” to Galleon and said he looked forward to a long and productive future together.
Renovation of the 2,500-square-foot building began last December, hospital officials said, but this project and others have been put on hold amid the height of the coronavirus pandemic. There are plans to expand the practice to include orthopedics, oncology and neurology. New patients are accepted and appointments can be made by calling 567-309-2050.
Prior to opening, Urgent Care offers the option of virtual medical visits by logging into the OhioHealth mobile app or by calling 614-788-6488 to make an appointment. Other emergency care facilities managed by OhioHealth are located in Ontario and Marion.
