More than 200 new cases of COVID-19 in Lancaster County

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird and the Lincoln-Lancaster County Department of Health (LLCHD) announced that 234 laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 were reported in Lancaster County on Wednesday, bringing the total to the community at 11,747. The death toll in the community remains at 54.

Recoveries: from 4460 to 4520

Overall positivity rate:

  • Lancaster County – 10.4% to 10.5%
  • State – from 13.5% to 13.6%
  • National – remains at 7.7 percent

Hospitalizations for COVID-19 positive patients: 127 with 48 from Lancaster County (two on the fans) and 79 from other communities (11 on the fans).

The COVID-19 risk dial is now in the red position. The position of the red dial indicates a serious risk of the virus spreading. Residents are encouraged to follow these recommendations to protect themselves and others:

  • Stay home unless you are traveling for work, school, food or medical care or to check if others may need help
  • Work from home if possible.
  • Wear a face mask when interacting with someone outside of your home.
  • Stay at least six feet from anyone outside your home.
  • Avoid gatherings.
  • Visit only businesses and participate in activities where public health guidelines are followed. Guidelines include mask wear, physical distance, and capacity limits.
  • Follow the Centers for Disease Control travel guidelines at cdc.gov.

Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough, shortness of breath, repeated tremors accompanied by chills, repeated muscle pain, headache, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell. If you have symptoms, get tested. Testing is now open to all residents of Lancaster County by appointment only.

The testing process begins with a free online risk assessment available at BryanHealth.com, CHIHealth.com, or TestNebraska.com. In-car test sites include:

  • Bryan Health: Former Graham tire store, northeast corner of 19th and “O” streets.
  • Nebraska Test: Gateway Mall, 6100 “W” Street, Northwest Corner of Mall. Test Nebraska’s hours of operation are 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
  • CHI Health St. Elizabeth: Autumn Ridge Family Medicine, 5000 North 26th St. and Southwest Family Health, 1240 Aries Drive. Call either site to make an appointment: Autumn Ridge at 402-435-5300 and South West Family at 402-420-1300.

LLCHD reminds the public that a flu shot is the most effective way to reduce the risk of getting the flu. The flu shot is readily available and the public is encouraged to contact health care providers or find a community flu shot location in November.
