President Donald Trump has told his allies he plans to run for president in 2024, according to a report, and may announce his candidacy by the end of next month.
Trump continues to publicly refuse to accept defeat in last week’s election, and his team have filed several lawsuits in key states that helped President-elect Joe Biden secure his victory.
Trump, however, has told his allies that he plans to run in the next U.S. presidential election and may announce his intention this year, Reuters reported, citing an anonymous source.
Last week, Trump ally Mick Mulvaney, his former acting chief of staff, said the president would run “absolutely” again in 2024.
He told the Institute of International and European Affairs think tank: “Now I think people are starting to realize that if Donald Trump loses he could be the guy ‘who shows up in 2024, and’ I tell you absolutely “.
“I would absolutely expect the president to stay involved in politics and absolutely put him on a shortlist of people who could run in 2024,” he added. “He doesn’t like to lose.”
He said Trump was “at high energy” and could run in 2028, when he would be 82.
“Don’t lose sight of the fact that he will be technically younger than Joe Biden now, four years from now. The stories about his energy level, the fact that he doesn’t sleep and his liveliness are true,” said Mulvaney, who serves as the US envoy to Northern Ireland.

Speculation about Trump’s future escalated on Wednesday when he announced that he wanted Ronna McDaniel to continue as chair of the Republican National Committee.
Outgoing presidents typically have no say in the leadership of the Republican Party’s main committee, a source telling Reuters this was an early sign that Trump is already planning to run again.
“I am pleased to report that I have given my full support and approval to Ronna McDaniel to continue leading the Republican National Committee (RNC),” the president tweeted. “With 72 MILLION votes, we received more votes than any sitting president in US history – and we will win!”
