Tom Lemming explains impact of recruiting for Notre Dame against Irish football after Clemson game

Notre Dame defeating Clemson on the field obviously has a huge impact in terms of the Fighting Irish’s quest for a national championship this season and historically speaking, as it is arguably the biggest win on the program since 1993 when Lou Holtz’s side defeated Florida State.

It’s a little harder to quantify exactly what winning recruiting means. Some of the impact is beneficial in the short term, but could be more beneficial in the future.

Notre Dame fans want to know if the Fighting Irish can start sending five-star recruits from across the country. Expectations need to be tempered, however, as rookies don’t react as much as fans to a game. However, it would have been much more beneficial for Notre Dame if the rookies were allowed into the stadium.

Preparation of football reports Tom lemming believes Notre Dame’s triumph over Clemson will have the greatest impact in the recruiting class of 2022.

“It will grab the attention of some of the five-star players because Notre Dame beat the nation’s No.1 team, and they have proven to be almost as talented as Clemson,” said Lemming.

“The fans react a lot more than the rookies, but everything is fluid. They’ll likely play Clemson again, and Notre Dame has yet to play in North Carolina. It really affects the kids of 2022 more. When you get a big win it doesn’t help the current class much because most of it is already over. Most children know where they are going.

“The kids of 2022 are watching Notre Dame beat the nation’s No.1 team. I really believe this has a much bigger effect on next year’s class.

“Not having the recruits on campus hurts because these kids would have seen the electricity in the stadium. When you beat a team like Clemson it changes a lot. It wasn’t a game of chance either; they’ve proven they can go up against the nation’s No.1 team and that means a lot to the rookies.

Lemming estimates that the “big five” in college football recruiting currently consist of Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, LSU and Ohio State. Florida, Notre Dame, Oregon, Texas A&M and USC are knocking on the door to this higher tier, according to Lemming. He added that Michigan and Penn State could take a step back due to their field performances in 2020.

“In terms of talent, Notre-Dame is closing the gap, but they are not there yet with the big five,” he explained. “This is the year for them to launch this 2022 class and lock them up before playing next year.

“Notre Dame has proven that she has the best offensive line in the country, an exceptional quarterback, perhaps the best tight ends and one of the best running backs in the country. Maybe in the secondary and wide receiver they are not so loaded, except for [safety] Kyle Hamilton. “

Lemming believes Notre Dame doesn’t have Clemson’s talent but beats them anyway. This is a testament to Notre Dame’s strong infrastructure and player development, which must also attract rookies.

Brian kelly is a great coach, ”says Lemming. “Notre Dame has academics, graduation rates and NBC to them. They have the tradition and the facilities. They still put a lot of guys in the NFL.

“This game proves Notre Dame can stick with anyone, and that should help in places where they are weakest.”

Notre Dame has 19 verbal engagements in the 2021 class, which Rivals scores as No. 11 group in the country. In the 2022 cycle, the Irish have three verbals.
