Mom with dementia plays Beethoven

– Elaine Lebar may be suffering from dementia, but she still knows her way on a keyboard – and hasn’t forgotten the third movement of Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata”, reports TMZ. A video of the 92-year-old playing the track recently became a hit on TikTok. “I don’t know,” she says of the music, before delving into the opening notes brilliantly. ABC 7 News reports that her daughter Randi Lebar recorded the performance in an elderly community in Massachusetts. “I didn’t expect this to go viral, but here we are,” Randi said. “My mother, a professional musician, suffers from significant dementia, but life is meaningful to her on the piano.” And like others suffering from the disease, the music has remained faithful to Elaine despite her short-term memory loss.

Randi said she hadn’t visited her mother in months due to the coronavirus pandemic, so she started posting videos of Elaine’s play. “The United States was at the height of its presidential campaign, with the ridiculous politicization of masks, and I was struck by the fact that people who spoke of their ‘personal freedom’ had no understanding of precious time and irreplaceable that they took from me and all of the other parents of the elderly, “she told Metro.” I posted the initial video as a silent rant – I had no desire to ‘get into the vituperative mask debate. ”Music publishing site Hal Leonard notes that Lebar is a graduate of Brooklyn College, the University of Missouri, and the Manhattan Conservatory of Music, and has published his own music (Read more uplifting news.)
