Florida records 17,344 more coronavirus cases in 2 days of testing, 342 more deaths from COVID-19

MIAMI – Florida Department of Health officials reported on Friday afternoon that 342 more people had died from COVID-19 in Florida and that 17,344 more people had tested positive for the coronavirus on Wednesday and Thursday.

Almost 38% of the state’s new infections were in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. In the past two days, COVID-19 was to blame for seven more people who died in Miami-Dade, 10 more deaths in Broward and six more in Palm Beach, according to state data.

Florida Totals

The Department of Health dashboard updated the total number of coronavirus cases in Florida from 961,676, which the agency reported on Wednesday, to 979,020 on Friday.

The state’s official coronavirus death toll fell from 18,254 on Wednesday to 18,596 on Friday. The data includes the deaths of 233 non-residents and 18,363 Florida residents.

Officials also reported that at least 54,467 Florida residents had been hospitalized with COVID-19 since the agency began tracking cases in mid-March.

Over the past two weeks, the state’s positivity rate for new coronavirus cases has ranged from 6.2% on Thursday to 10.8% on November 13.

MIAMI-DADE

Positivity rate: 6.28% on Thursday, 6.10% on Wednesday and 5.97% on Tuesday.

Death: 27. Wednesday and Tuesday report: 27 (unchanged)

Positivity rate: 8.41% on Thursday, 8.79% on Wednesday and 11.38% on Tuesday.

PALM BEACH

Total cases: 64,300 (+1 154). Wednesday report: 63,146 (+449). Tuesday report: 62,697 (+419)

Death: 1676 (+6). Wednesday report: 1,670 (+7). Tuesday report: 1663 (+4)

Positivity rate: 5.58% Thursday, 5.38% Wednesday and 7.07% Tuesday.

Global Totals

Epidemiologists believe there are more than 61 million cases of coronavirus worldwide. There have been 1,439,802 deaths attributed to COVID-19 worldwide, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.

Epidemiologists from the university also report that the United States has recorded 264,624 deaths attributed to COVID-19 and 12,993,261 cases of coronavirus. The United States is the country with the most recorded coronavirus cases. India follows with over 9 million and Brazil with over 6 million.
