Ohio State Suspends Team Activities; The match was scheduled for Saturday noon in Champaign, Ill.
Columbus, Ohio – The soccer game between Ohio State University and the University of Illinois, scheduled for this Saturday at noon (EST) in Champaign, Ill., Has been canceled by the University of Ohio state after new positive tests were found for the coronavirus after a series of PCR tests this afternoon.
The athletics department has suspended all team-related football activities. The decision to cancel and suspend was made jointly by Athletics Director Gene Smith, University President Kristina M. Johnson, Chief Team Physician Dr Jim Borchers, and in consultation with the Big Ten Conference.
“We continued to see an increase in positive tests during this week,” Smith said. “The health, safety and well-being of our student-athletes is our primary concern, and our decisions regarding their well-being will continue to be guided by our medical staff.
The program will resume activities for its team when its medical staff determine it is safe to do so based on protocols established by the Big Ten Conference.
