STRAIT – The number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in Michigan rose to 488,144 on Wednesday, including 12,333 deaths, state officials report.

Wednesday’s update includes 4,222 new cases and 51 additional deaths. The following the data update is scheduled for January 2, 2021.

New COVID-19 cases are slowing but deaths remain high in Michigan. Testing has slowed over the holidays, with more than 35,000 diagnostic tests reported per day, with the positive rate declining to almost 8% last week. Hospitalizations have slowly declined but remain relatively high, including in intensive care and use of ventilators.

Michigan’s 7-day moving average for daily cases was 2,602 on Wednesday, nearly the lowest in several weeks. The 7-day average of deaths was 74. The state’s death rate is 2.5%. The state also reports “active cases”, which were listed Wednesday at 157,500 people. More than 318,000 people have recovered in Michigan.

According to Johns Hopkins University, more than 6.5 million people have recovered in the United States, with more than 20 million cases reported across the country. Over 340,000 have died in the United States

Globally, more than 82.5 million people have been confirmed infected and more than 1.8 million have died, according to Johns Hopkins University. The real numbers are certainly much higher, due to the limited testing, the different ways nations count the dead, and the deliberate underreporting of some governments.

The United States added a second COVID-19 vaccine to its arsenal on Friday, December 19, stepping up efforts to fend off an outbreak so severe that the country regularly records more than 3,000 deaths a day.

Much-needed doses are expected to arrive on Monday after the Food and Drug Administration authorized the emergency deployment of the vaccine developed by Moderna Inc. and the National Institutes of Health.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen whitmer announced that the state is revising its COVID-19 order to resume in-person high school classes, reopen some indoor entertainment venues, and allow outdoor sports and contactless fitness classes.

The state is currently under a “break” which has imposed stricter regulations on COVID-19 on restaurants, schools and more, but this order was due to expire on Sunday (December 20).

Now, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has released a revised version of the order, which will be in effect until January 15.

the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services launched “CV19 CheckUp” – a free, anonymous tool that assesses a person’s risks associated with COVID-19.

“This tool, which we will make available to all Michiganders, helps individuals understand their risk based on their life situation and personal behavior, and offers recommendations to reduce these risks while connecting people to services. if necessary, ”said Dr Alexis Travis, Senior Deputy Director of the Aging & Adult Services Agency.

Travis said the tool can be used by anyone in Michigan, but is specifically designed to help adults 60 and older. It is anonymous and does not require any name, email address, or identifier of any kind.

The tool used artificial intelligence to analyze each person through an online questionnaire. It is designed for those who are considered to be at high risk.

The tool’s algorithms are driven by science and medicine, using data from the Centers for Disaster Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization.
