Looks like our showboat governor did it again.
Blast through the villages with one of his “I’m Not Wonderful” media events. Last week, he showed up at UF Health hospital to outline his plan to distribute the COVID vaccine. Announcing that it will go against CDC guidelines and that the next wave of vaccines will be available for those over 65. It seems like a reasonable decision. It makes it look like it’s all for the right people who get the vaccine as early as possible.
But now here’s the good part: Lake and Marion counties have announced their distribution plans – but Sumter County (where the majority of the villages are) has no plans so far because they don’t know what. and when the county allowance will be. But the showboat appears in The Villages without an allocation plan for the vast majority of its inhabitants.
Next, showboat has the audacity to step back and watch five non-essentials get vaccinated. This group included a loser from the recent county supervisor election, and two community development supervisors, as well as two other non-essentials.
The sheer gall of two elected community development supervisors leading the pack to get vaccinated is disgusting. They should be ashamed of themselves and their self-serving actions should not go unnoticed. (Full disclosure – I am an elected supervisor in Community Development District 2 – my ethics would not have allowed me to get ahead of the residents who elected me). The right thing for the showboat to do would have been to go to an area nursing home and showcase a resident getting vaccinated.
As I suggested earlier, DeSantis should have stayed away from the villages when he organized the mock polo field testing deployment. He blew around town – did a lot to start testing – left town and immediately no test was available.
To be clear, this is not a Republican or Democratic question – this is just my take on yet another supreme example of disgusting and failed selfish boasting and judgment by some elected officials.
Now for some good news. The Sumter County Department of Health deserves a big thumbs up for the exceptional service it now provides for COVID testing. It’s easy and most importantly free with no insurance required. Simply call the Sumter County Department of Health (352-569-3102) and request an appointment. The tests are available in the villages in the annex of Morse and 466.
