Sarah Simental, 18, of Chicago, who had no previous health problems, began suffering from headaches, sore throats and body aches on December 23.

Sarah felt so ill that her parents took her to a local hospital where she was found with Covid-19.

Here she only got worse and was airlifted to the University of Chicago hospital, ABC7 reported.

But the teenager never recovered, dying days later of cardiac arrest after suffering complications from Covid-19.

Sarah Simental’s grieving mother, Deborah Simental, told ABC-7 how her daughter called her from the hospital shortly before her death and that she was upset to miss Christmas.

” TAKE THIS SERIOUS

She said, “And I had to reassure her that it’s only a day on the calendar, and when she gets home,” We’ll have Christmas with you. ”

“Sadly, she didn’t (leave the hospital). It literally eaten at her. And no parent should ever have to watch their child go through this.”

Sarah’s dad, Don Simental, told ABC, “I have no words for this. I can’t believe how quickly this has progressed.”

In a message to young people, he added: “Take this seriously”.

Deborah said the only consolation for her and her husband was that they were able to be by Sarah’s bedside when she died.

She said, “She said, ‘I’m fine, mom.’

“So I know she knows, eventually we’ll all be OK. We’ll miss her, but we’ll be OK.”

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has determined that the high school student died of an acute lack of oxygen in her blood due to a Covid infection, with brain hemorrhage as a contributing factor.

Covid has now infected 19.3 million Americans and killed more than 335,000.
