Residents of St. Johns County camp overnight to get vaccinated on Saturday

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Florida – COVID-19 vaccines are moving fast in St. Johns County.

The vaccine is intended for health workers and people 65 years of age and over, and the health service distributes vaccines throughout the weekend. The county is now assisting the health department with distribution.

Friday night before 9 p.m., people were already lining up to get vaccinated on Saturday morning.

“I decided I was going to come today,” Joan Tischer said. “I don’t want to be the last person to die from Covid. It’s just important.

There were several cars on the street outside the health department on Friday night and some people even brought their RVs.

Officials say 340 people received the vaccine in St. Johns County on Friday and those in the line Friday night said they wanted to make sure they got theirs as well.

Tischer said she arrived at 6 p.m. on Friday and would be the first person in line to be vaccinated on Saturday morning.

“It’s not as hard to wait here as it is to spend a night in intensive care,” Tischer said.

Amal Soni helped her parents put their motorhome in line.

“They are both over 65. There are many people in the household who are at high risk. My wife has diabetes, so we wanted to make sure they were safe, ”Soni said.

Earlier today, long lines of cars waited outside the health department for the second day in a row. Health officials said the day’s supply of COVID-19 vaccines was gone within 2.5 hours.
