A COVID-19 outbreak spread to 30 patients last week at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, according to a PeaceHealth press release Friday night.

None of the patients were admitted due to the virus and none tested positive on admission.

In addition, six employees who cared for the patients also tested positive for the virus, and PeaceHealth has placed 86 employees in self-quarantine due to the outbreak.

It is unclear which building or buildings the epidemic has spread.

“Our infection prevention specialists immediately began to conduct a thorough review to understand the root causes of this situation and to provide additional protection for our patients and caregivers,” said Lawrence Neville, MD, Chief Medical Officer, in the Press release. “This is a very complex exposure, and we continue to review the situation and have controls in place to prevent further exposure.”

Clark County Public Health and PeaceHealth are advising potentially exposed patients, the press release said.

“Sadly, it’s a reminder that COVID remains in our community and can spread very quickly,” Neville said. “We must all remain vigilant about physical distance, the wearing of masks and the limitation of our gatherings.”

PeaceHealth, a Catholic non-profit health care organization, is located at 400 NE Mother Joseph Place, Vancouver.
