Biden and Trump to campaign in Georgia today ahead of second round Senate election

President-elect Joe Biden is set to make a final push in Georgia today ahead of tomorrow’s second round of Senate elections.

Biden will campaign in Atlanta and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris traveled to Savannah on Sunday. It will be the second visit to the state by both President-elect and Vice-President-elect as they campaign for Democratic candidates Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock in hopes the party will take control of the Senate.

The president-elect’s trip to Georgia on Monday will coincide with President Trump’s trip to Dalton, Georgia, for a rally to campaign for outgoing Republican officials Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue.

Why this election is the key: Control of the chamber depends on the clashes next week. If Democrats win both races, the Senate roster would be 50-50, positioning Harris to serve as the deciding vote and paving an easier way for Biden to advance the agenda he promoted during his campaign.

In Biden’s last shutdown earlier in December, in the wake of the electoral college claiming his victory, he criticized Perdue and Loeffler, saying they had stayed and “fully embraced the cancellation of nearly 5 million votes in Georgia”. He urged Georgians to vote as if their lives depended on it.
