COVID-19: Mistake Allows Employees of Area Private School to Access Vaccine, Report Says

Nearly a dozen professors and staff at a private school received the COVID-19 vaccine before healthcare professionals and long-term care residents due to an email error.

On Monday, January 4, Williams School principal Mark Fader said 11 teachers and staff took the vaccine after the school was notified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention of the United States that employees were eligible to participate in one of the earliest rounds of immunizations, New London Day reported.

In response, the school provided a list of faculty and staff to the CDC, and all 53 staff received an email with instructions on how to schedule a vaccination.

Williams School in New London offers private, college-preparatory education for grades 6 to 12.

On December 29, Fader said he learned from the local board of health that faculty and staff at the school had received the emails from the CDC in error. It is not known how this error was made.

Williams School alerted employees to cancel any vaccination plans, but 11 members had already received treatment. Employees who have taken their first doses of the vaccine will be allowed to take the second necessary doses.
