BROOKLYN – New Yorkers rushed to the Brooklyn Army Terminal Thursday night after a false rumor circulated on social media and WhatsApp about an overdose of the coronavirus vaccine.
Doses were only available to people with an appointment, said Mayor Bill Neidhardt spokesman. The city has sent people to the Brooklyn Army Terminal to ask walk-in people to leave.
“There is NO vaccine available for walk-in people,” he tweeted. “It was misinformation and the notification was not from the New York government. We are sending people to the Brooklyn Army Terminal to ask people online to go home if they don’t have an appointment.”
The video showed a long line and a lot of waiting in the car.

The social media post said there were more than 410 doses to be administered in the next few hours. Councilor Justin Brannan has expressed his frustration with the post.
“You may have seen this bogus image. As a result, there is now a line of people outside the Brooklyn Army Terminal who are not going to get vaccinated,” he tweeted. “I know we’re all desperate to get vaccinated, but sharing stuff like this hurts more than good and creates confusion.
