MUSKEGON COUNTY, MI – As patients continue to die from COVID in Muskegon County, the director of public health is frustrated by the lack of vaccine.
Public Health Muskegon County did not receive any additional doses of the vaccine this week, Kathy Moore told MLive. She had asked for nearly 1,700, she said.
Moore, the county’s public health official, said she was grateful to Mercy Health for sharing 200 doses of its supply to help immunize residents over the age of 80. Additionally, Mercy agreed to open 200 places in his vaccination schedule for those aged 75 and over. she said.
Mercy vaccinated its health workers with its own vaccine stock.
But it is well below the demand for the vaccine. As of Thursday, January 14, 14,375 people aged 65 and over had completed an online form for those who wanted to be vaccinated, according to figures from the Ministry of Health.

The county planned to ask the state for 4,900 doses for next week and may schedule “small” vaccination clinics if those arrive, Moore said.
Meanwhile, at least four other people have died from COVID in Muskegon County over the past week, according to Michigan state figures. It places the total number of deaths at 271 on Wednesday, with six more “probable” COVID deaths.
Cumulative COVID cases in the county totaled 9,719 as of Wednesday, January 13, according to the state. This is an increase of 223 from the previous week.
42 COVID patients were hospitalized at Mercy Health in Muskegon on Wednesday, 19 of them in intensive care and 14 on ventilators, according to figures from the county health department.
The state provided the age distribution of cumulative COVID cases in the county on Wednesday: 247 among children up to age 9, 779 among youth aged 10 to 19, 1,575 among those in their twenties, 1,452 among those in their thirties, 1,496 among the young. those in their forties, 1,543 of those in their fifties, 1,287 of those in their sixties, 775 of those in the 70th and 564 of those in the 80th.

Ottawa County had 18,855 cumulative cases as of Wednesday, up 422 from last week. The deaths were 275, up three from the previous week, although there were 29 other “probable” COVID deaths, according to the state.
Oceana County has had 1,649 cases and 42 deaths, according to state figures.
There have been 1,109 inmate cases, 90 staff cases and nine inmate deaths at Muskegon Correctional Facility, according to the Michigan Department of Corrections. Of the detainee cases, 33 are considered “active”.
Brooks Correctional Facility has had 992 inmate cases, including 35 active, and two inmate deaths, according to the MDOC. There were also 90 staffing cases at Brooks.
Jail cases are not included in county numbers.
