San Luis Obispo County reports the deaths of four more people with COVID-19.
Public health officials say the patients were between 70 and 100 years old.
San Luis Obispo County has had 140 deaths attributed to COVID-19.
The county also added 127 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing the county’s total to 16,056 confirmed cases as of January 20.
This is the smallest number of daily cases since the start of the year. At a press conference on Wednesday afternoon, SLO County Public Health Officer Dr Penny Borenstein said that while the county is starting to see a lower number of new cases, they are still very high compared to in spring and summer.
She added that nearly a quarter of all cases in the county have occurred in the past 14 days.
Health officials say 55 people are hospitalized. Another 2,398 people are recovering at home and health officials say 13,429 people have recovered.
San Luis Obispo County reports that 18 of the 38 licensed and staffed intensive care beds in the county are currently occupied. Seven of them are taken by COVID-19 patients.

The whereabouts of an additional 84 cases are under investigation, and nine more are listed as “other”, which includes communities with fewer than five cases. The Department of Public Health does not identify these locations.
Community COVID-19 testing sites are currently open to the public in San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles, Morro Bay, Grover Beach and Nipomo.
