Residents 75 years of age or older will now be the first priority group in phase two and they can start getting vaccinated on February 1, Baker said at a State House press conference.
Bay staters aged 65 and over were moved to the second priority group, in addition to people with two co-morbidities, Baker added.
The revised order for phase two vaccinations is as follows:
- Individuals aged 75 and over
- People 65 years of age and over or with 2+ comorbidities
- Early education and K-12 workers, public transport, utilities, food and agriculture, sanitation, public works, and public health workers
- Individuals with comorbidity.
Baker also said the state plans to open 103 publicly accessible vaccination sites by the end of the week and 165 by mid-February.
Public vaccination sites include places such as pharmacies, community clinics, and other providers and organizations who have experience in administering vaccines.
Three other mass vaccination sites are also expected to open in the coming weeks in Springfield, Danvers and Boston.
The Springfield site at Eastfield Mall will open on January 2, the Double Tree Hilton Hotel in Danvers sites will launch on February 3, and the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston will open in the first week of February.
These are in addition to the venues already announced at Gillette Stadium and Fenway Park.
Baker said the state plans to build the capacity to administer more doses of the vaccine than it currently receives from the federal government.
