New Jersey’s latest list of COVID-19 vaccination sites now includes more than 200 sites statewide, including six mega-sites, although the availability of doses from the federal government continues to make appointments scarce.
Two of the state’s mega-sites, which are supposed to vaccinate thousands of people every day, had to shut down for a day due to lack of available doses, officials said.
The federal government has so far distributed 989,900 vaccines to the state, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. State officials said they expected to receive around 100,000 per week over the next few weeks.
The New Jersey coronavirus dashboard shows that 605,397 doses were given on Tuesday. Of these, 523,008 were first doses.
New Jersey launched an appointment call center and toll-free number on Monday to help residents who have struggled to negotiate the state’s online registry. With 250 employees, the call center listens to English and Spanish speaking residents. The number is 855-568-0545.
The vaccine is currently available to people 65 years of age and older, people 16 to 64 years of age with certain health conditions, smokers, healthcare workers, long-term care residents, others living in popular neighborhoods, the police and the fire brigade. This represents more than 4 million people.
Over the next six months, New Jersey plans to vaccinate about 4.7 million people. The general public should be able to receive the vaccinations by April or May, officials said.
