6 new COVID-19 deaths in Tuolumne County, 6 new cases in Calaveras

Tuolumne County – Public health reports six deaths of residents of Tuolumne County attributed to COVID-19. The state is notifying Tuolumne’s public health of probable COVID deaths that require further investigation. The investigation confirmed that these six people, who had already been released from COVID-19 isolation, later died. Individuals include a man in his 60s, two men and a woman in their 80s, and a man and woman in their 60s.

There have been 6 new cases in the Tuolumne County community today and they all seem to be isolating themselves. A total of 7 people have been released from isolation and 4 are currently hospitalized, up from 6 yesterday.

New community cases include 1 man and 1 woman in their 30s, 1 man in their 60s, and 2 men and 1 woman in their 60s.

Tuolumne County has a total of 3,520 cases divided between 2,279 community cases and 1,241 cases from Sierra Conservation Center inmates. The total tested is 23,986, down 35 from yesterday due to data cleaning, including removal of duplicates. The total number of cases recovered in the community is 2,116 with 122 active cases in the community. The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation reports 61 active inmate cases today.

Calaveras County – Calaveras Public Health reports 6 new cases of COVID-19 and active cases increased from 2 to 112. A total of 1,492 are listed as recovered, an increase of 4. The report notes that hospitalizations of COVID- 19 stay with 4 residents of Calaveras. The total number of cases is 1,626 including 735 men, 868 women and 17 sexless. The majority, 722 cases of covidus are in the 18-49 age group, and 376 are listed as over 65. eligible. Calaveras remains in the purple level with 41.9 cases per day per 100,000 and an average positivity rate of 11.9% over 7 days.

Tuolumne also remains in the purple level of the Blueprint for a Safer Economy Color Tier System. California Department of Public Health (CDPH) officials released their update reporting Tuolumne at 21.8 new COVID-19 cases per day per 100,000, and an average positivity rate of 5.4% over 7 days . Both Tuolumne and Calaveras have their numbers adjusted due to their low populations. Mariposa remains in the red level.

Under the direction of the state, the purple level means:

• Restaurants may open for outdoor dining
• Some low-risk youth sports competitions may resume
• Nail salons and hairdressers may reopen indoors with modifications
• Gyms can run outdoors with modifications

The levels are updated every Tuesday based on a county’s case rate and test positivity rate.

Calaveras Public Health has partnered with Dignity Health Mark Twain Medical Center to vaccinate people 65 years and older living in Calaveras County. Those aged 65 and over interested in getting the vaccine should call (209) 754-2564. Those who call will need to provide their full name, date of birth and phone number.
