UD suspends its activities on campus | UDaily

In response to the ongoing snow emergency, the University of Delaware is suspending in-person activities on the Newark campus campus for Monday, February 1. Virtual activities, including online courses, will proceed as originally planned.

Essential personnel should report for duty on time, unless otherwise authorized. UD Facilities staff will work to clean campus parking lots and treat sidewalks.

Other UD sites in the state will make their own decisions about closing or late opening based on their local conditions.

Schedule changes

• The University’s COVID-19 tests scheduled for February 1 at Harker ISE Lab and Clayton Hall are canceled.
• Student Health Services will be closed on February 1 and students who have Monday appointments must reschedule their schedule. The nurses’ line of care will be available for anyone with health problems.
• On the children’s campus, the early learning center and college school will be closed on February 1. The laboratory school will continue with virtual learning.

Personal security

Safety is UD’s top priority. Professors, staff and students should not put themselves in danger, and employees who expect travel difficulties should contact their supervisors.

Faculty members unable to conduct a class should notify their departmental offices, and students who cannot attend classes should contact their faculty. In such cases, UD policy states that students should be allowed to make up for missed class time and that canceled classes should be rescheduled when possible.

Teachers and students are not expected to take unnecessary risks in meeting their teaching and learning obligations due to inclement weather. When classes haven’t been canceled, it’s a matter of personal judgment whether traveling around campus is unsafe. Teachers should notify their departmental offices when weather conditions prevent them from fulfilling their teaching obligations; likewise, students must notify their teachers when inclement weather prevents them from attending class. In such cases, students should be allowed to make up for missed class time and, where possible, canceled classes should be postponed.
