COVID-19 cases and virus-related deaths continue to decline in New Mexico as officials announced 752 new infections in an update Saturday afternoon. 17 more deaths from the virus have also been reported – a number that has declined but remains relatively high.

The update pushed the seven-day moving average of virus cases to 710 per day and deaths to 21 per day, the lowest since November 21. crossed peaks and valleys that often reached almost record heights.

Six of the 17 people whose deaths were reported on Saturday had underlying conditions, and four were from Bernalillo County, which had the highest number. Those who died were between 50 and 90 years old and six were assisted living facilities across the state.

There have been 3,265 deaths from the virus in the state, including 2,258 in the past three months.

It was on October 30 that New Mexico surpassed the 1,000 deaths that had accumulated over an eight-month period. Since then, the death toll has skyrocketed, reaching a maximum moving average of 35 per day on December 17.

The majority of the new cases announced on Saturday came from Bernalillo County, with 255. Next come Doña Ana and Sandoval counties, with 70 cases each.

The state has recorded a total of 173,539 cases of COVID-19, including more than 127,000 in the past three months. Since October 30, cases reached a maximum moving average of 2,672 cases per day on November 23.

There were 548 people hospitalized for COVID-19 across New Mexico on Saturday.

As of Saturday, 102,298 cases of the virus were designated as recovered by the New Mexico Department of Health.
