There has been another confirmed case of the UK variant COVID-19 in New Jersey, this time in the North Trenton neighborhood, Mayor W. Reed Gusciora announced today.
City officials have been told that a COVID-19 test from a North Trenton resident has shown the presence of the UK variant COVID-19 (B.1.1.7), the mayor said. This resident has since tested negative, and the only other person in the household is being tested.
The first two cases of the same variant were reported in New Jersey on January 22. According to the CDC website, this variant spreads faster and easier than other versions of the virus.
“With the emergence of this variant in Trenton, we can’t think of a more important time to remind our residents to stay vigilant,” Gusciora said. “That means practicing social distancing, wearing your mask, and making sure you get tested if you have symptoms.”
The city is offering COVID-19 testing at MLK School on 401 Brunswick Avenue on February 9 and 12, 2021, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. No registration is required and tests will be administered on a first-come, first-first basis. come. – served basis. Although there is no charge for testing, residents are encouraged to bring their insurance card if they have one, along with proof of residency in Trenton.
Vaccines administered in the Trenton area are still effective against this variant of COVID-19, according to city health officials. Residents who need help registering for vaccines are advised to call the city’s Department of Health at (609) -989-3242.
To date, Trenton has had a total of 6,373 cases of COVID-19 with 85 related deaths, Gusciora said.
