The Louisiana Department of Health reported 1,143 additional confirmed coronavirus cases and 19 additional confirmed deaths in its noon Monday update.
“On 2/8/21, LDH is reporting two-day totals for cases and tests,” the Louisiana Department of Health wrote on its dashboard. “The previously reported server problem has been fixed.”
The number of hospitalizations has fallen by 22 and the number of patients requiring ventilators has increased by six.
There are also 54,994 total “probable” coronavirus cases in Louisiana, according to the agency’s dashboard.

Here are some other key statewide statistics from Monday:
- Total number of confirmed cases: 357,995
- Total number of “probable” cases: 54,994
- Total number of confirmed deaths: 8,542
- Currently hospitalized: 1144
- Currently under ventilators: 149
- Vaccine series launched: 404,007 (updated twice a week)
- Vaccine series completed: 130,978
- Presumed cured: 363,457 on February 1 (updated weekly)
Note: Staff at The Advocate and The Times-Picayune calculate the daily number of cases and increases in confirmed deaths based on the difference between today’s total and yesterday’s total of confirmed cases and deaths from coronavirus. The Louisiana Department of Health publishes a daily case tally on its dashboard that includes probable cases as indicated by a positive antigen test. This number of cases may be different from the one listed here.
Here are some of the parishes with the largest single-day increase in confirmed coronavirus cases, according to Monday’s report:
- Saint-Tammany: 110
- Jefferson: 105
- Orleans: 82
- Caddo: 78
- East Baton Rouge: 76
- Bossier: 59
- Lafayette: 57

Louisiana began reopening for Phase 1 on May 15-16, then moved to Phase 2 on June 5. Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards extended Louisiana’s Phase 2 restrictions twice in August before moving the state to Phase 3 on September 11. state back to a modified phase 2 by the end of November.
