Humboldt County Joint Information Center press release:

No new cases of COVID-19 were reported today, so the total number of county residents who tested positive for the virus remains at 3,025. Public health officials said if zero cases is still good news, today’s report follows a national holiday when the Humboldt County Public Health Lab was shut down and most commercial labs were not providing data. Health officials have urged residents of the community to continue to follow all COVID-19 safety measures when they are around people who are not part of their household.

Humboldt County remains in the “purple” or prevalent level under California’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy, with a positivity rate of 4.2% and an adjusted case rate of 9. The county has reached the state’s health equity measure. If the county continues to meet this metric and local viral data remains stable or improves for an additional week, the county could be reassigned to a “red” or substantial level. Go to covid19.ca.gov/safer-economy/ to learn more about the master plan.

Currently, preparations are underway to immunize food and agriculture workers who make up a part of the younger workforce, but the timing of this group’s opening depends on the supply of vaccines available as well as the number of vaccines on the market approved for emergency use. Higher education should also open up to vaccine appointments as supply increases and older groups are vaccinated in greater numbers.

Young adults – the 20-29 and 30-39 age groups – account for 1,305, or about 43%, of the county’s 3,025 cases. Vaccinating people in these age groups who are not in a skilled workforce could take months due to the state’s prioritization based on age, so those responsible for health stressed the importance of researching routine tests for COVID-19.
