The FBI said it was targeting a single assailant as it continued to investigate the death of U.S. Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick, who died of his injuries in the Jan.6 riot.

A federal police source and another close to the investigation confirmed the news on Saturday.

Sicknick, 42, was injured “while physically engaging with protesters” and returned to his division office, where he collapsed, according to a statement from Capitol Police. He was taken to hospital, where he later died on January 7.

Officers did not identify the exact cause of Sicknick’s injuries, but recently said they suspected it was a potential spray-type irritant, such as bear spray, which he had. inhaled during the riot. The investigation into Sicknick’s death is being treated as an assault.

Officials say a video shows a person attacking several agents, including Sicknick, with a spray. The suspect is also heard of the alleged attack before the incident, officials said.

Federal authorities have not identified the suspect and the FBI is not yet releasing the video to the public.

Five people, including Sicknick, have died after a host of supporters of then-President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol to prevent Congress from formally accepting the Electoral College votes that led to the election of November to President Joe Biden.

This is a developing story; come back for updates.
