We’re days away from launching Outriders on all platforms, PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Stadia, and we have a unique situation where everything you’ve done in the demo so far is impacting the release. final.
This means that you can have four classes up to level 7 with “maximized” blue gear builds, resource stacks, and Legendaries that can at least have their mods factored into the Endgame, potentially, despite low level drops.
I did a really absurd amount of farming a few weeks ago on PS5, crushes before they got nerfed, and killed this captain so many times his great-great-grandchildren are going to have a grudge against me.
And yet, I called to leave all that work behind and move to Outriders on Xbox Series X for the actual release, even though I’ll be starting from scratch.
Why? Lots of reasons. I’ve made a video about this before, but it mostly has to do with the core PS5 annoyances that make me want to migrate to Xbox where I can, and that includes most third-party versions.
In this specific case, we have:
1. Game Pass – While I may end up with a review code for Outriders, the game launches on day one of Xbox Game Pass, which is obviously a big reason many consumers are choosing this version over one. other, if they are already signed above. Outriders costs $ 60 on PlayStation (not $ 70 like some recent games, thankfully), but on Game Pass it can feel “free” if you already have a sub.
2. All the little annoyances of the PS5 overwhelmed me. Poor user interface and home button remapping. Everything they did to seriously screw up friends and the party system. The fact that Outriders (and other games) will always have “copy” phases whenever they are patched (which they frequently will). Anytime a game tries to use adaptive triggers. Poor controller battery life. The list is getting long.
3. Tiny non-Game Pass perks from Xbox that add up, like Quick Resume and Smart Delivery (the latter doesn’t apply to Outriders, given it’s already out for the next gen, but it does. for other games from Avengers to Cyberpunk). And a user interface that I don’t hate. And I could preload the Outriders a week earlier there.
4. Cross play. In this case, I don’t lose access to my friends who will be playing on PlayStation because Outriders will launch with cross play from day one.
5. Am I losing that much, really? Honestly 30 hours seems like a lot to give up, but it was mostly farming with horribly low world level 5 drop rates, so it was a lot of air. I only ended up with two legendary weapons, and I mean, two weeks from the start of the game, how many will I have by then? The actual demo content looks like two actual missions and three side missions, so there really isn’t much to redo, and you’re going to be re-running missions to farm them anyway, that’s for sure. I don’t mind a blank slate even if it puts me a few hours “late” at the start here.
Again, I am not throwing away my PS5. I still play all the exclusives I need to play there, I still play Destiny 2 there (when crossplay kicks in, we’ll come back to that), but for third-party games like Outriders and others, I am switching to Xbox this generation. Sony didn’t put in enough effort to maintain my loyalty this time around, shattering what wasn’t broken and not fixing the clear issues of the last generation.
