CDC Director Drops Storyline, Warns of Impending Fate as Cases Rise – Deadline

“When I started at the CDC two months ago,” CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said on Monday, “I promised I would speak the truth, even if it wasn’t the news you. wanted to hear. Now is one of those times when I have to share the truth and I have to hope and trust that you will listen.

Dr. Walensky then became emotional as she recalled her experiences treating Covid-19 patients who were alone at the end of their lives because their loved ones could not risk infection.

Speaking at a White House briefing, Dr Walensky said: “We have so much to hope for, so much promise and potential from where we are and so much to hope,” he said. she declared. “But right now I’m scared.”

“I’m going to lose the script and I’m going to reflect on the recurring feeling I have of impending doom,” she said. Dr Walensky then recalled, as the doctor treating Covid infections, “being the last person in the room” to touch a patient’s hand “because a loved one couldn’t be there”. She also recalled coming into work and seeing “extra morgue trucks” set up outside to deal with the overflow of bodies.

Cases of the virus are up about 10% week after week, according to the CDC. Daily infections now total about 60,000 cases per day. Dr Walensky warned that without sustained contrary action, the country could follow Europe in another spike in cases and suffer a new wave of deaths.

“I have to share the truth, and I have to hope and trust that you will listen,” she pleads.

Indeed, the director’s warning comes almost exactly one year to the day since the start of the Covid-19 wave last spring. According to CDC data, the 7-day case average began to increase on March 20, 2020.

But as of that date in 2020, the country was registering around 15,000 new cases per day. As stated above, if the United States entered a new spring wave, it would do so not from 15,000 a day, but from around 60,000. This is 400% above the Spring 2020 wave bottom. This wave peaked at around 75,000 per day on July 24.
