SALT LAKE CITY – The number of COVID-19 cases in Utah increased by 194 on Monday, with 3,214 additional vaccinations and no deaths reported, according to the Utah Department of Health.
The state now estimates that there are 9,979 active cases of COVID-19 in the state. This is the first time that estimate has fallen below 10,000 since September 15, when there were around 9,777 active COVID-19 cases, according to state data.
The sliding average number of positive cases per day over seven days is now 426, according to the health department. The rate of positive tests per day for this period of time reported with the “people over people” method is now 6.9%. The positive test rate per day averaged over seven days calculated with the “test-by-test” method is now 3.45%.
There are now 138 COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized in Utah, including 57 in intensive care, according to state data. A total of 63% of all intensive care unit beds in Utah are now occupied, including about 65% of the intensive care beds at the state’s 16 referral hospitals. About 47% of non-ICU hospital beds are occupied in Utah as of Monday.
A total of 1,307,533 doses of the vaccine were administered in the state, up from 1,304,319 on Sunday. A total of 862,756 Utahns have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 478,918 are fully immunized. So far 1,501,900 doses of vaccine have been shipped to Utah.
The new figures indicate a 0.05% increase in positive cases since Sunday. Of the 2,375,124 people tested for COVID-19 in Utah so far, 16.2% have tested positive for COVID-19. The total number of tests carried out during the pandemic is now 4,204,635, up 4,664 from Sunday. Of those, 2,403 were tests on people who had never been tested before for COVID-19, according to the health department.
Monday’s totals give Utah 384,756 total confirmed cases, with 15,474 total hospitalizations and 2,114 total deaths from the disease. The state now estimates that there are 372,663 recovered cases of COVID-19 in Utah.
Utah House Bill 294, also known as the COVID-19 “endgame” bill, requires all state and local Utah health orders related to the pandemic to end on day when the state’s 14-day case rate is less than 191 per 100,000 population, the seven-day average of COVID-19 intensive care unit use is less than 15%, and 1,633,000 First-order doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been assigned to Utah.
On Monday, the state only met that threshold within the seven-day average for COVID-19 ICU use, which is around 10.4%. The state’s 14-day case rate is 199.5, and just over 1.5 million main doses of the vaccine have been shipped to Utah so far, according to the health department.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox and Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson are due to provide an update on COVID-19 at a press conference Thursday at 11 a.m.
