Iceland’s Fagradalsfjall volcano began its much-anticipated eruption a few weeks ago, marking the first eruption on the Reykjanes Peninsula in over 800 years.
Luckily, drone videographer Vilius Petrikas was there to capture the story in the making by flying his camera over the site.
The stunning images show the main volcanic cone and the surrounding small cones erupting, while a valley surrounded by mountains slowly fills with lava.
Vilius, 30, who lives in Reykjavik, described for the first time seeing the site of the eruption: “I was speechless… It is very difficult to describe what it looked and felt in person, the power was overwhelming.
“I still don’t believe what I saw and can’t wait to go back to feel the energy of our mighty nature.”
