For the second day in a row, Nevada on Thursday reported an above-average number of new coronavirus cases and deaths during the previous day, state data showed.
Updated figures from the Department of Health and Human Services published on the state’s coronavirus website showed 350 new cases of COVID-19 and seven more deaths have been reported in the past 24 hours. The new figures total in the state at 304,112 cases and 5,256 deaths.
The new cases were well above the 14-day moving average of 204 cases reported daily, according to state data. Deaths were also well above the two-week moving average of daily deaths, which remained at three.
Averages, along with other major indicators of the state disease, have been trending downward since at least mid-January. However, Department of Health and Human Services spokeswoman Shannon Litz said on Thursday that the daily new cases appear to “stabilize” or flatten out.
The change comes as the number of national cases has risen, raising concerns about a possible sustained increase in the disease.

State and county health agencies often redistribute daily data after it has been reported to better reflect the date of death or onset of symptoms, which is why moving average trend lines frequently differ from daily reports and are considered to be better indicators of disease direction. epidemic.
The state’s two-week positivity rate, which essentially tracks the number of people tested infected with the virus, remained at 4.2% on Thursday.
Clark County’s infection rate also remained unchanged after falling to 4% on Wednesday. The rate for the county is at its lowest level since the early days of the outbreak, state data shows.
The number of people in Nevada hospitalized with confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19 remained at 273.
Caleb Cage, the state’s COVID-19 response director, said Wednesday that statewide hospitalizations also appear to be leveling off, “which could indicate another plateau.”
The Southern Nevada Health District, meanwhile, reported 254 new cases of COVID-19 in Clark County over the previous day. The seven deaths reported by the state occurred in the county, according to district reports.
Cumulative totals in Clark County have risen to 234,803 cases and 4,115 deaths.
