New Orleans Saints David Onyemata suspended six games

An already thin defensive line from the New Orleans Saints took a huge hit. Rising star DT David Onyemata has been suspended without pay for the first six (6) games of the 2021 regular season. He announced on Instagram that he tested positive for a banned substance. He said he and others were “currently testing the supplements” he was taking. A call could come soon from Onyemata, but regardless, the Saints will lose their best defensive tackle for a while to start the 2021 season.

The Saints lost DT Sheldon Rankins to the New York Jets and traded Malcom Brown to the Jacksonville Jaguars this offseason and now David Onyemata will be missing on suspension. He will be able to participate in training camp and the preseason according to the NFL press release.

As it stands, his comeback will come after the Week 7 game against Seattle. This is also not his first suspension, in 2019 he was suspended from a game for possession of marijuana at his home.

Now with a huge hole at DT, the Saints’ offseason racing list has become more urgent. The Saints will need an Onyemata replacement and a CB2 starter.
