Low Share New Song “Disappearing”: Listen

Last month, Low announced a new album titled HEY WHAT, the continuation of their superb 2018 release Double negation. Along with the news, the band shared a single titled “Days Like These” – a promising first glimpse that landed among our favorite songs that week. Today they are back with another.

Low’s latest is called “Disappearing”, and it comes with a video directed by Dorian Wood. Here’s what Wood had to say about the clip:

I’m incredibly thrilled to have created this video for Low. I’ve been such a fan for years. I was inspired to offer a personal glimpse of what I had done during the pandemic year. I have been modeling in parallel for years, mainly for art schools. Once the schools were physically closed due to the Covid, I was invited to pose for dozens of virtual classes. I borrowed a friend’s empty spare bedroom and twice a week I would set up my laptop and lights and pose for three hours straight. During those long stretches of time, I lost myself in thought as I delivered poses that best showcased all of this plump brunette beauty. In my mind, I have traveled to places and memories, and in the case of “Disappearing”, I not only visited the ocean in my mind, I became it. Even in its most stimulating and meditative form, a modeling session was often a reminder of how lonely it can be when the other humans in the room immediately disappear after the laptop is turned off. And yet, there was still a semblance of hope. We shot the video at Human Resources, a performance space in Los Angeles that also served as my creative sanctuary during the pandemic year. There is a lot of ‘homecoming’ love in this video. I am honored to be able to share this love.

Musically, “Disappearing” echoes “Days Like These” – experimentally sound but just a little more upbeat than Double negation, with a tension of hymnal melodies and a guttural distortion. Find out below.

HEY WHAT was released on 10/9 via Sub Pop Records. Pre-order it here.
