WASHINGTON, Feb. 20 (Reuters) – On February 27, Michael Cohen, a former lawyer for President Donald Trump, will testify at a public hearing before a congressional committee. The chairman of the commission said that Trump's business practices would be at the center of the debate.
Cohen was originally scheduled to testify on February 7, but his adviser Lanny Davis said he had been canceled due to threats made against his family by Trump.
"I am pleased to announce that Michael Cohen's public testimony before the Oversight Committee is back, despite the efforts of some to intimidate his family members and prevent him from appearing," said in a statement. a statement the chairman of the House of Representatives' Monitoring and Reform Committee, Elijah Cummings.
Cohen pleaded guilty to crimes including violations of campaign funding during Trump's election campaign in 2016 and cooperated with the investigators.
Trump called Cohen "rat" in a tweet in December for cooperating with prosecutors. Cohen had been the longtime "repairman" that Trump himself had described and said he would take a shot for the New York real estate developer.
"The schedule is now set and I look forward to the # Americans hearing my story in my voice!" Cohen tweeted Wednesday night, in connection with a fundraiser for his attorney fees.

The Oversight Committee said in a note to its members that Cohen would be questioned about "Trump's debts and payments related to efforts to influence the 2016 election", compliance with tax laws and campaign finance , and Trump's business practices, among others.
Davis confirmed in a tweet that Cohen would appear before the Oversight Committee and stated that Cohen "would talk about his years of experience serving Mr. Trump".
Cohen will visit the federal prison on May 6 after a judge granted him a two-month delay to allow him to recover from surgery and prepare his testimony before Congress, according to a brief tabled Wednesday.
Cohen is also scheduled to testify at an in camera hearing of the House of Commons Intelligence Committee on February 28. Last week, Cohen postponed his appearance before the Senate Intelligence Committee for medical reasons.
