TV talk show host Montel Williams, who recently contracted and recovered from coronavirus, said he believed the vaccine was the only thing that kept him from going to hospital.
“If I had not obtained [the vaccine], I might not speak to you today, “said Williams, speaking today on CNN.
“Due to my weakened immune system, this infection would probably have been a lot worse than it was,” he said. “So, I am blessed to be able to speak to you. “
Williams, who suffers from multiple sclerosis, said he and his family have been extremely careful throughout the pandemic. He believes he contracted the virus after meeting an unmasked man who appeared ill at a testing site.
“I looked him in the face… he looked like he was a little sick,” Williams said. “… I texted my wife at that point and said ‘you can’t believe a dead end walked in here where it said’ no entry, no mask ‘no mask.’ ”
“How dare you intervene on another person,” Williams said of the interaction. “The rules are there … stay away from another person, especially if you think you are sick.”
Williams then urged all Americans who have not yet been vaccinated to get vaccinated now, for themselves and for their fellow Americans.
“If you care about another human being then get vaccinated,” he said. “… Be selfish … be ignorant. Think only of yourself.”
