Vaccinations to protect against COVID-19 have grown in importance with the increase in the delta variant and the rise in infections and hospitalizations across Alabama. We answer your vaccine questions and get answers from health experts.
For answers, we reached out to Sherri L. Davidson, state epidemiologist in the Office of Informatics and Data Analysis at the Alabama Department of Public Health. It should be noted that any questions you have about your own health should be directed to your primary care provider.
Question: I had Covid in December 2020. I am fully vaccinated, having had my 1st dose of the Pfizer vaccine 02/24/21. With the Delta variant rampant now, do I have to quarantine after flying from AL to WA to see my young and unvaccinated grandchildren?
Reply: Davidson said Alabama does not require people returning from out of state to be quarantined for 14 days.
“In general, vaccinated people who are potentially exposed to COVID-19 should watch for any symptoms of COVID-19 and get tested immediately if symptoms appear,” Davidson said.
Washington state follows the CDC’s guidelines on air travel, which state that vaccinated people do not need to be tested or self-quarantined.
According to new CDC guidelines released last week, fully vaccinated people who have known exposure to someone suspected or confirmed of COVID-19 should be tested three to five days after exposure and should wear a mask in public places. interiors for 14 days or until they receive a negative test result.

Reply: Davidson suggested that the hairstylist and client should wear a mask during the appointment. Health experts say, however, that the risk of hospitalization is very low for vaccinated people who have “breakthrough” COVID cases. According to a Kaiser Family Foundation analysis of official state data, less than 1% of fully vaccinated people have experienced a breakthrough infection.
