When firefighters arrived on the scene, they noticed a gas leak. Officials say the leak is from a rupture in a large gas line between eight and 10 inches in diameter.

Electricity has been cut to nearly 615 people in the area to ensure there is no danger to residents or businesses in the area. Residents did not have to be evacuated, but some currently closed businesses did. Electricity was restored to the area around 5:45 a.m. Thursday.

The fire was contained below the bridge and posed no threat to anyone’s safety or to any building. Firefighters allowed the gas escaping from the main line to burn in the blaze instead of spilling out into the area.
