A city in north Westchester is leaving nothing to chance when it comes to COVID-19 as it faces a further rise in new infections and new cases as the county grapples with the much more contagious Delta variant.
Yorktown officials have announced that the city will reinstate certain restrictions related to COVID-19 in an effort to fend off the virus, which has quickly spread to the Hudson Valley, with the Delta variant of the virus becoming the dominant strain. In the region.
Under the new guidelines, residents and visitors to Yorktown will be required to mask themselves in certain situations, including:
- Any indoor urban installation;
- Any unvaccinated employee working indoors;
- All employees in contact with the public interacting with clients or consumers, regardless of their immunization status.
According to the latest data from the Westchester County Health Department, there are currently 1,800 active cases of COVID-19 across the county, including 69 in Yorktown, one of the highest numbers in the region.
“We recognize that the root of cases is increasing, but not as much as it was earlier this year,” Yorktown supervisor Matt Slater said in a statement. “But I think what we’re seeing is proactive steps to mitigate the real impact that this might have.
“We already saw a few peaks last year, earlier this year,” he continued. “We need to take proactive steps to make sure we protect our employees and the general public. ”
