“Can’t believe this is happening to him:” Lake County doctor in intensive care after testing positive for COVID-19

LAKE COUNTY, Florida. – A Lake County doctor is in intensive care after contracting COVID-19 and now his family and friends are looking to move him as his condition worsens.

Dr Raymond Dominick has been a doctor for over 20 years and has treated hundreds of patients with COVID-19 in the past, but he is now in intensive care at Leesburg Regional Medical Center, according to his girlfriend Terri Hicks.

“Anyone who is a patient of Dr Dominick will agree that he is always there to try to help. I can’t believe this is happening to him, ”Hicks said.

Hicks tells News 6 that Dominick’s symptoms started about a week ago with a headache and continued to worsen, leading to him being hospitalized with double pneumonia.

“Thursday they called us to the hospital, and they didn’t think he was going to make it, he ended up doing and now they have him on 100% oxygen, Bi-PAP him giving antibiotics, steroids, “Hicks said. .

Hicks says Dr Dominick is stable at the moment.

The family are hoping to move him to another medical center to receive other forms of treatment like convalescent plasma treatment or use an ECMO machine which is used to help the heart and lungs.

“They unfortunately don’t have the technology to take care of patients sick with COVID-19, so it’s our goal now to have him transferred to another hospital so that he can get the help he needs,” Hicks said.

Hicks also tested positive for COVID-19, but was not vaccinated, she would not say whether Dr Dominick was or not, but said this ordeal made her think differently about the virus and urged everyone world to be tested and vaccinated.

“Tell anyone who has a family member with COVID don’t wait [to] start treatment immediately make sure you are in a hospital where they have the technology you need to get treatment … it’s a horrible disease, it’s a horrible virus, I’ve never seen anything like it Hicks said.
