Michigan coronavirus cases up to 916,006; The death toll now stands at 19,982

DETROIT – The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Michigan rose to 916,006 on Wednesday, including 19,982 deaths, state officials report.

Wednesday’s update includes a total of 2,786 new cases and 24 additional deaths over the past two days – an average of 1,393 cases per day. On Monday, the state announced a total of 913,220 cases and 19,958 deaths.

Of the 24 deaths announced on Wednesday, 12 were from a review of vital records.

Michigan now reports COVID-19 data on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Tests have dropped to around 10,000 diagnostic tests reported per day on average, with the Positive rate over 7 days at 6.87% from Monday, slightly higher than the previous week. The rate of positive tests has continued to increase since the end of June, when it was at its lowest. Hospitalizations have been increasing slowly over the past month.

Cases are on the rise again in Michigan. The state’s 7-day moving average for daily cases was 1,048 on Monday – a significant jump from early July. The 7-day average of deaths was 3 Monday, the lowest on record. The state’s death rate is 2.2%.

Michigan has reported more than 9.3 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine administered as of Monday, with 64.2% of 16+ residents who received at least one dose while 56% of 16+ residents are considered fully vaccinated.
