Another New Jersey restaurant has reportedly adopted a policy requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccination for certain customers.
Ruthie’s Bar-BQ & Pizza in Montclair requires customers who dine inside provide proof of vaccination, according to a report from Montclair Local, and has so far encountered “no resistance” from customers. The Essex County restaurant is at least New Jersey’s second restaurant after It’s Greek To Me in Ridgewood adopted a similar policy in early August.
Ruthie’s is a few blocks from Montclair High School as well as Woodman Field, home to the school’s football team. Owner Ruthie Perretti told Montclair Local that children coming in after football practice, without masks, inspired her to adopt the proof of vaccination policy, as well as requiring masks if more than five customers were found. inside the restaurant. “We had to set the tone before school started,” Perretti told the Montclair local.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced earlier in August that the city would require proof of vaccination for indoor meals as well as gyms and indoor entertainment venues. Gov. Phil Murphy has not implemented such policies in New Jersey, but several major Garden State entertainment venues will soon require proof of vaccination or a negative test.
