The Alabama Association of Volunteer Fire Departments, Inc. recently named Oak Bowery Volunteer Fire Chief Jeremy Robinson as the 2021 Firefighter of the Year at its 43rd annual conference on July 24, 2021.

The AAVFD Auxiliary said that in 2020 Robinson was repairing equipment during a logging job in Clay County when he witnessed an accident.

He took off his belt and used it as a tourniquet to stop the loss of blood from the bleeding, called 911, requested a helicopter airlift, and used the GPS coordinates of his cell phone to navigate. ambulance to the logging site.
The AAVFD auxiliary said that after the ambulance team stabilized the victim and brought him to a landing zone, a helicopter with medical personnel took the victim to the hospital. .
“I would not have put [the award] because I didn’t do it for recognition, ”said Robinson. “I did it to save a man’s life. Whether I had something for it or not didn’t matter.
Robinson said he had been a firefighter for at least 10 years. He started with the Union Hill Volunteer Fire Department in Lafayette, then moved to the Oak Bowery Volunteer Fire Department in Waverly after moving.
Robinson lives between Waverly and Auburn with his wife, Ashley Robinson, and three children.
